Is it permissible for me to take something from my father that is most likely unlawful?

What a father bestows upon his son, if the unlawful (haram) predominantly characterizes it, then it contains a strong element of doubt (shubha). Accepting such a gift is permissible according to some scholars, who argue that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, accepted an invitation from a Jew and ate from his food and bought from him, and the Jews were described as devourers of ill-gotten gains (suht). However, some scholars, like Al-Shafi'i and Ahmad, disliked this.

The preferred stance is to dislike taking this gift. It can be refused in a way that does not anger the father, or it can be taken and then given away in charity to avoid the doubt, based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are matters that are doubtful, which many people do not know. So, whoever avoids the doubtful matters has safeguarded his religion and his honor," and his saying: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt."
