Does the Prophet's—may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him—hadith: "There are three matters whose seriousness is serious and whose jesting is serious" apply to a man and a woman joking at work, with the woman saying to the man: "I am your wife, and when is the wedding?"

Addressing a non-mahram (definition) woman with familiarity and jest is a reprehensible act and a gateway to evil and corruption. Its ugliness and corruption intensify if it escalates to expressions related to marriage. However, this does not result in a marriage contract, as a valid marriage requires offer, acceptance, and the presence of a guardian. A woman working in a mixed-gender environment is a grave abomination and a great trial. If necessity dictates such work, then isolation must be avoided, interaction should be limited to the bare minimum, and adherence to the prescribed legal hijab (definition) and lowering of the gaze are obligatory.
