I hate my uncle because he caused the death of my father, took our money, and left us suffering. I used to pray for him to be struck with blindness and paralysis, and indeed he was afflicted with them. Despite the improvement in our financial situation and their return to visit us, I still hate them and do not trust them despite our hospitality towards them as guests. I ask if avoiding them is permissible to avoid problems, for we have suffered in this world and do not want to suffer in the hereafter because of them.

Praise be to Allah, it is not permissible to accuse a Muslim without clear evidence, and the default is innocence and good thinking. As for severing ties with the uncle, it is not permissible because breaking kinship is one of the major sins. Maintaining kinship does not require a specific method, but varies according to circumstances and customs, and greetings suffice to avoid severance. Avoidance is permissible if there is apparent harm in maintaining the relationship. It is better to respond to bad with good and to initiate kind words with relatives, as this removes grudges and brings love. A beneficial remedy is to pray in private for the one you feel dislike towards.
