Zakat is obligatory on an orphan's wealth when it reaches the nisab and a hawl has passed. It is paid from his wealth, based on the Almighty’s saying: ﴿خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا﴾ [Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase]. Any increase not resulting from the profit of the original wealth starts a new hawl. The solution for the brother's situation is to advise him and urge him to pray, clarify the danger of abandoning it, find him righteous companionship, and if possible, moving him to a righteous environment is imperative.
