What is the wisdom behind shortening one's garment, does it include trousers, and is it true that shortening garments was for the purpose of establishing equality among people during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?

A Muslim must submit to the rulings of the Sharia, obey its commands, and avoid its prohibitions. Islam is fundamentally about submitting to the Sharia's rulings. After that, a Muslim may seek the wisdom behind them, as the rulings of the Sharia are based on wisdom and are far from being arbitrary. The prohibition of isbal (letting one's garment hang below the ankles) applies to all garments for men, but not for women. The wisdom behind the prohibition of isbal may include: that long clothes hinder movement and activity, that the part of the leg below the ankles does not need to be covered, that isbal exposes clothes to damage and filth, and that the Sharia preserves cleanliness and safeguards wealth, in addition to isbal being a cause for pride, arrogance, haughtiness, and showing off. As for the wisdom being to seek equality among people, this has not been mentioned in the Sharia.
