Does divorce take effect if a husband says, "By the might and majesty of Allah, if you do not do this, then you will be divorced," and the wife does not do the said thing?

Your statement to your wife, "Let this result in your divorce," carries two possibilities:

1. A promise of divorce: If you intended this, then a promise of divorce does not constitute a divorce. You would be required to offer expiation for breaking an oath if you do not do what you swore to do. 2. A conditional divorce: In this case, the divorce takes effect upon the fulfillment of the condition, which is her failure to do what you asked of her. This is the view held by the majority of jurists, and it is the fatwa we issue.

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce unless the person is unaware of what they are saying.
