How do we understand "whether in their life or their death" in the verse: "Or do those who commit evil deeds think that We shall make them like those who believe and do righteous deeds, whether in their life or their death," given that the righteous suffer from illnesses, poverty, and injustice in this world?

Evildoers and believers are not equal in this world and the hereafter. Believers enjoy a good life in this world and happiness in the hereafter, whereas disbelievers face a life of hardship and misery in both realms. True happiness is the purity of soul and tranquility of heart, and this is found only by believers. Any affliction that befalls a believer is an expiation for their sins and an elevation of their ranks. As for the facilitation of affairs for the disobedient, it is a gradual enticement from Allah. Abundance of wealth does not necessarily mean happiness, for Allah may withhold worldly possessions from His servant out of mercy for them.
