What is the ruling on subscribing to a charity that collects donations to purchase mourning provisions such as food, drink, chairs, and tents?

Scholars differed on the ruling of sitting for condolences. Some, like the Shafi'is and Hanbalis, disliked it because it is an innovation (muhdath), a bid'ah, and renews grief. The Hanafis agreed with them on its dislikeability if it involves something prohibited. Al-Tahawi narrated from Sharh Al-Sayyid that there is no harm in sitting for three days without anything prohibited. As for the Malikis, they held that it is preferable for condolences to take place at the bereaved family's home. Some Hanbalis are of the view that what is disliked is staying overnight with the deceased's family or prolonging the sitting. Since sitting for condolences is not forbidden, it is permissible to participate in a society to assist the deceased's family in hosting those offering condolences.
