How do I submit to my Lord?
It is permissible to say: "All compliments are for Allah, and all prayers and good things," but it is not permissible to say: "Peace be upon Allah," because Allah is Peace, and peace is sought from Him, not for Him, and it is one of Allah's names. The Companions were forbidden from doing so, as indicated by the of Ibn Mas'ud: "Before the was prescribed, we used to say: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibreel and Mika'eel.' Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Do not say this, for Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, is As-Salam (Peace). Rather, say: All compliments are for Allah.'"
Scholars have praised the understanding of Khadijah when Jibreel conveyed Allah's salutations to her, and she said: "Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (Peace), and upon Jibreel be peace, and upon you, O Messenger of Allah, be peace and Allah's mercy and blessings," as she understood that Allah is not greeted back in the same way creatures are greeted.
