If there are enough female obstetricians and gynecologists available in a country, then it is impermissible for a male doctor to examine women. However, if there are not enough female doctors, then it is permissible for a Muslim doctor to work in this specialty. It is preferable for the doctor to be unrelated to the woman, neither by kinship nor by marriage, to avoid any suspicion.
