Is it obligatory for me to distance myself from my beardless (mardān) friends, despite the difficulty, in order to get rid of lustful desires toward them after I have stopped practicing sodomy, and can frequent supplication be a cure for this?
This world is a realm of trial and transience. The wise person is one who hastens to obey their Lord and is certain that today is work without reckoning, and tomorrow is reckoning without work. A human being is recompensed for every small and large deed, as stated in the Almighty's words: "And the record [of deeds] will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, 'Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?' And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does not wrong anyone." Whoever contemplates the bliss of Paradise will find it easy to abandon everything that displeases Allah, for His glory states: "And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally." The remembrance of death prevents one from enjoying what is unlawful, for the pleasures of sins vanish, but their punishment remains, and the hardships of obedience vanish, but their reward remains. Inability to sever an unsatisfactory relationship is a sign of weak faith and certainty. A person must fear Allah and be strict with themselves.
