Is it permissible to reclaim money lent to a person when it is known that he will repay this money from an interest-based loan?
Lending money to someone who needs it for a permissible purpose is allowed, and it is an act of benevolence for which the lender will be rewarded, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There is no Muslim who lends a Muslim a loan twice, but it is considered as if he gave charity once." If your friend takes a usurious loan to establish his project, the sin is on him, not on you. It is permissible for you to take back your debt from the profit of his project or from usurious gains. However, you should advise him to stay away from usury, because Allah Almighty says: (O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal – [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged.) [Quran 2:278-279]. And because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who consumes Riba (usury), the one who feeds it, the one who writes it down, and its two witnesses," and he said: "They are all equal (in sin)."
