Which Companion conquered the Garden of Death?

The Companion who conquered the Garden of Death was Al-Bara' ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him. On the day of the battle against Musaylimah, he ordered his companions to lift him on a shield and throw him into the garden. He stormed in and fought until he opened its gate, and on that day, he sustained over eighty wounds. He was exceedingly brave, and it is said that Umar ibn Al-Khattab advised against appointing him as an army commander because he was a source of peril. He was renowned for having killed one hundred opponents in single combat. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said about him: "How many a weak, downtrodden person, wearing two worn garments, if he were to swear by Allah, Allah would fulfill his oath. Al-Bara' ibn Malik is one of them."
