Does Satan come at the throes of death, and is the Hadith of Ahmad ibn Hanbal authentic?

Some scholars have stated that Satan attends the son of Adam at the time of death to mislead him and seal his fate with an evil end, basing this on weak hadiths and narratives that interpret the Prophetic supplication, "And I seek refuge in You from Satan confounding me at the time of death," as referring to Satan's attempts to mislead a person during the throes of death.
