What is the ruling on a worshipper delaying the taslim (salutation of peace) after the Imam for the purpose of completing a supplication?

Supplicating after the final tashahhud (definition) is commendable, especially the first supplication. However, if the Imam has said the taslim (definition) and the worshipper has not completed his supplication, scholars have differed on the ruling regarding this: Shafi'is permit the worshipper to continue supplicating after the Imam's taslim, even if it takes a long time, while Malikis consider this disliked. Accordingly, there is no harm for the worshipper to supplicate after the Imam's taslim, but it is preferable to say the taslim immediately after the Imam, prioritizing following him.
