What is the correct way to act when someone dies in front of you? Should one abandon congregational prayers and everything else to hasten their preparation and the distribution of their inheritance, and how can their family be informed of their death without causing them excessive grief?

After verifying the death of the deceased, it is commendable to promptly inform their family, relatives, and those who will prepare the body. It is permissible to say: "Consider so-and-so with Allah Almighty," following the example of Umm Sulaim. This announcement of death is permissible due to the benefits it entails, such as prompting attendance at the funeral, preparing the body, performing the funeral prayer, and executing their will. It is commendable to expedite the preparation and burial of the deceased immediately, unless the death was sudden; in such a case, a delay is allowed until their death is confirmed, even if for two or three days. It is permissible to miss congregational prayers or Friday prayer for the purpose of preparing the deceased. As for the division of the inheritance, it is preferable to hasten it after deducting the expenses of preparation, settling debts, and executing wills within the limits of one-third.
