What is the difference between haram and bid‘ah?

Bid‘ah (innovation) is an invented way in religion, intended to exaggerate in the worship of Allah, and it only occurs in matters of religion. As for haram (unlawful), it is committing what Allah has definitively forbidden, and it includes forbidden acts and forbidden innovations, because innovation is committing what the Shari‘ah has forbidden. Therefore, haram intersects with bid‘ah in forbidden innovations.
