Should a young man marry his paternal uncle's daughter to please his parents, despite not desiring her, or should he try to marry his maternal uncle's daughter whom he desires but who refuses marriage, knowing that his distance from his religion has increased his sorrow?
The questioner should consider the رضا (satisfaction) of his parents in marriage and other matters, for in it lies the رضا (satisfaction) of Allah. He should ascertain the stance of his maternal cousin regarding marriage. If she agrees, he should openly express his desire for her to his parents, informing them that his happiness lies in marrying her. If they understand, they should dissolve his engagement to his paternal cousin. However, if her decision is never to marry, he should despair of her and forget her. If there is no way for him to marry his maternal cousin, and his paternal cousin is of good character, religious, and beautiful, then marrying her is more appropriate, especially since his parents desire it. With time, he may come to love her and forget his maternal cousin. True happiness and tranquility are only achieved through obedience to Allah. "Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely grant them a good life, and We will surely reward them their due for the best of what they used to do." And whoever turns away from the remembrance of Allah will have a constricted life.
