What should a maid who has repented and wants to return trusts she stole from many homes do, given that some of these homes are unknown and some of their owners are difficult to reach, and she is poor and cannot afford to pay money in return for them?

Taking people's money unjustly is a grave sin and a serious transgression. Whoever commits this must offer sincere repentance and restore rights to their rightful owners. If the owner of the right is known, their money must be returned to them, even if subtly. If unknown, the money should be given as charity on their behalf, informing them if they or their heir are found, so they can choose between ratifying the charity or taking their right. Resorting to charity is only permissible after diligently searching for the rightful owner. The sister's poverty does not exempt her from fulfilling this right; these rights remain a debt upon her until she fulfills them. There is no harm in helping her to enable her to clear her conscience.
