The majestic name "Allah" was known before the advent of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and was frequently mentioned in pre-Islamic poetry. It has close cognates in the Torah and the Gospel, just as the word "Allah" is the known name among Arab Christians. It is not permissible for a Muslim to consider the Gospel a reliable reference due to its corruption. It appears that it is permissible to express the word "Lord" with the word "Allah" in translation.
