Is zakat obligatory on land inherited from a father, knowing that the heirs have not sold or utilized it?

If there is no intention to trade land, there is no zakat on it, by agreement [of scholars]. If there is an intention to trade it, there is no zakat on it according to most jurists, because they stipulate for the zakat on trade goods that a Muslim must acquire ownership through his own action and intend trade at the time of acquisition. Accordingly, inherited land has no zakat on it, even if the heirs intend to trade it, because ownership was not acquired through their own action, and because the default is ownership for personal use, not for trade.
