How should one perform the Prayer of Need (Salat al-Hajah): Is it with specific surahs, or with more than one surah in a single rak'ah, or is it a regular prayer with Al-Fatihah and any surah?

The jurists have agreed upon the desirability of Salatul Hajah (Prayer of Need), but they have differed on the number of its rak'ahs (units of prayer) and the wording of its du'a (supplication) due to the variations in the narrations. The Malikis, Hanbalis, the well-known opinion among the Shafi'is, and one opinion among the Hanafis hold that it consists of two rak'ahs. The prevalent opinion among the Hanafis is that it consists of four rak'ahs, and there is an opinion among them that it consists of twelve rak'ahs, their evidence being the Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi from Abdullah ibn Awfa. Some scholars have differed on this due to the weakness of the Ahadith (prophetic narrations) reported concerning it.
