What is the ruling on one who says that religion is in need of no one, not even the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, when his intention was to clarify the value of religion in the sight of Allah?

If the speaker intends that the religion has been perfected and that the Prophet (peace be upon him) fully conveyed the trust, then his words are true, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "This day I have perfected for you your religion." However, if he intends to denigrate the Prophet, or that the religion does not need to be conveyed, then he has slandered, lied, and apostatized from Islam, and he must repent and pronounce the two Shahadas.
