How sound is the assertion that the peacock and the snake assisted Iblis against Adam and Eve before their descent to Earth, as mentioned in some books and certain narrations attributed to Ibn Abbas?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The exegetes (mufassirun) mentioned that Iblis entered Paradise through the serpent to tempt Adam and Eve. It was said that he entered its belly, or that it carried him between its fangs, or that the serpent was a servant to Adam. These narrations are among the Isra'iliyat (Judeo-Christian traditions) from which nothing has been authentically proven from the Infallible (Prophet Muhammad), and they are not trustworthy. What is sufficient is what is mentioned in the Holy Quran. Furthermore, what was narrated from Ibn Abbas concerning this matter is very weak and not authentic.
