Is it permissible to cut down a tree endowed to the mosque for the purpose of construction, and can it be replaced with another tree?

According to most scholars, it is impermissible to cut down a tree that has been endowed as a waqf, because by virtue of its endowment, it has ceased to be the property of its owner. It must remain an endowment until its benefit ceases.

However, some scholars, including Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, held the view that it is permissible to replace an endowment (waqf) if there is a need or benefit, by substituting it with something similar. If there is no need, it can be replaced with something better. We see no objection in adopting the view of Sheikh al-Islam, so it is permissible to replace an endowed tree with something better than it, while acknowledging that it is more cautious not to do so, to avoid disagreement.
