What is the ruling on the fringe (al-qissah) that some women use by cutting the hair from above the forehead and letting strands of it hang down upon it?

It is forbidden to wear the qassah (hair bangs/fringe) if the intention is to imitate the disbelieving women, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." However, if the intention is not imitation, and it is a newly introduced custom considered an adornment by which a woman beautifies herself for her husband and appears before her peers in a manner that elevates her status, then there is no harm in it.
