It is obligatory to follow the Imam in omitting (recommended) acts whose performance would disrupt the following of the Imam, such as the prostration of recitation ( al-tilawah) and the first . As for sunnah acts whose performance does not entail disrupting the following of the Imam, it is permissible to perform them, such as the sitting for rest (jalsat al-istiraha), raising the hands, and the opening supplication (du'a al-istiftah). The Imam's omission of some sunnah acts does not necessitate accusing him of sin or innovation.
