The preponderant view is that what is inscribed in the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz) is only what has been and what will be until the Day of Judgment; this is because what is infinite cannot be encompassed by writing. Prophetic traditions have been reported with the phrasing "until the Day of Judgment" or "until the Hour is established," restricting the term "forever" which appeared in other traditions, thus the absolute is interpreted in light of the restricted.
