Why did Islam grant men the right to divorce without cause, yet forbid women from entering Paradise if they sought a divorce without cause? And why did it not make divorce contingent upon mutual consent between both parties?

The claim that Islam demeaned women is false; Islam honored them and elevated their status. During their childhood, the Prophet, peace be upon him, encouraged the care of daughters. If she marries, he obligated the husband to financially support her and to treat her kindly. If she becomes a mother, he obligated devotion to her and respect for her.

As for those who bear malice towards Islam, they ignore that its rulings are from Allah, Who knows His creation and what is good for them. Allah Almighty says: "Allah intends for you ease, and He does not intend for you hardship" and "Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?"

A Muslim must submit to Allah's rulings, even if they do not comprehend the wisdom behind them, while it is permissible to seek out the wisdom if it can be known. Among the apparent wisdoms in making divorce in the hands of the man is that a woman's nature is tenderness and quick emotional response. If divorce were in her hands, she might act on it against her own best interests, especially since she did not incur the costs of marriage. A woman is not absolutely prevented from seeking divorce.
