Custody is the protection and upbringing of a child. It is for both parents jointly during the marital relationship. It is not permissible for the father to keep the children away from their mother for a long period without a valid excuse. The place of custody is the residence of the child's father. It is not permissible for the mother to travel with her children except with their father's permission. It is not permissible for the husband to expel his wife from the marital home except for a legitimate reason, and it is not permissible for her to leave except with his permission. They both must cooperate to resolve problems away from the children. If the problem is not resolved, the wife has the right to resort to the judiciary.
