Is it permissible to say, "Have you ever thought of making Allah Almighty laugh?" intending the narrations about waking up and praying, and should this statement be denounced in front of common people?

Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah believe in the attributes of Allah that are affirmed in the Qur'an and Sunnah in a manner befitting Him, and among them is the attribute of "laughter" (al-Dahik). This meaning has been established by narrations from the Companions Ibn Mas'ud and Abu Darda', may Allah be pleased with them both, including that Allah laughs at two men: a mujahid (fighter in the way of Allah) who stands firm in battle, and a person who performs night prayers (Qiyam al-Layl) of whom no one knows but Allah.

Therefore, there is no harm in a Muslim asking his brother: "Have you ever thought of making Allah laugh?" intending thereby to encourage him to perform night prayers. However, consideration must be given to the understanding of those being addressed. For the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Companions forbade speaking to people about matters their minds cannot grasp, lest it become a trial for them or lead to their denial, because some people might misunderstand the attribute of "laughter" for Allah and liken it to the laughter of creation. It is suggested that people be informed of the relevant hadith as it is, without affectation or strangeness.
