What is the correct pronunciation of Allah's name "As-Sattīr": Is it (Sa-tīr) with a fatḥa on the sīn and a kasra on the tāʾ, or (Si-ttīr) with a kasra on the sīn and tāʾ and a shaddah on the tāʾ, or are both correct?

Allah the Exalted is Hayiyy, Sittīr; He loves concealment and does not expose His servants, and He loves for them to conceal themselves.

Scholars have differed on the precise vocalization of the word "Sittīr" in two opinions:

1. The majority vocalized it akin to "Raḥīm" (with an open sīn and a kasra on the tāʾ), meaning that His nature is to desire love for concealment and safeguarding. 2. A minority vocalized it akin to "Ṣiddīq" (with a kasra on the sīn and a shaddah on the tāʾ), meaning one who abandons repulsive matters and conceals flaws and scandals.

The more preponderant vocalization is with an open sīn and a kasra on the tāʾ, because this pattern (faʿīl) is common in Allah's Most Beautiful Names, such as "Raḥīm" (Most Merciful) and "Qadīr" (All-Able). The other vocalization is rare among the patterns of Allah's Most Beautiful Names.

A servant may also be described with this form, just as Moses (peace be upon him) was described as "Ḥayiyy, Sittīr" (modest, very concealing).
