Does a divorce deferred to a specific time take effect?

If divorce is made contingent on a future time, it occurs when that time arrives, such as a man telling his wife: "You are divorced on the first of next month." This is the view of the majority of scholars, who cite the sayings of jurists like Ibn Qudamah and Al-Nawawi, and the Fiqh Encyclopedia. Some scholars hold the view that if divorce is made contingent on a future event that resembles the spouses reaching maturity, then it occurs immediately. And Allah knows best.
