What is the reality of the dispute that occurred in Saqifa after the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the issue of succession, and did the people immediately unite behind Abu Bakr, or did the matter almost escalate to fighting?

The story of Saqifah Bani Sa'idah was narrated by weak and abandoned narrators, while what Al-Bukhari narrated from Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, is well-established. It mentions that the Ansar gathered in Saqifah Bani Sa'idah, while the Muhajirun gathered around Abu Bakr. When they arrived at the Saqifah, Sa'd ibn 'Ubada was ill. The Ansar delivered a speech, stating that they were the helpers of Allah and the battalion of Islam, and that the Muhajirun were a small group, and that they wanted to exclude the Ansar from authority. Then Abu Bakr spoke, emphasizing that authority is only known for this clan of Quraysh, for they are the noblest of Arabs in lineage and home. He then nominated Umar and Abu Ubaidah for allegiance, but Umar pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr, and the Muhajirun and Ansar followed him. Sa'd ibn 'Ubada acknowledged the truth of what Al-Siddiq said, and that Quraysh are the guardians of this matter. And that Abu Bakr accepted the leadership out of fear of fitna (discord). The Ansar said, "One Amir from us and one Amir from you," as was the custom of the Arabs, then they submitted when they heard the Hadith: "The Imams are from Quraysh."
