One who called to an innovation (bid'ah) or a sin, knowing it to be so, and then repented, Allah will accept his repentance, and he will not be harmed by others committing it after his repentance. If he called to it out of ignorance, then there is no sin upon him, all the more so. It remains obligatory upon him to enjoin good and forbid evil to the best of his ability. If he falls short in this despite having the ability, then he bears the sin of his shortcoming.
