What is the meaning of the Hadith: "As for the people of the Fire who are its inhabitants, they will neither die therein nor live, but there are people whom the Fire will affect due to their sins, so Allah will cause them to die a death"? And how will they neither die nor live, and what is the meaning of "Allah will cause them to die a death"?

Muslim narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "As for the people of the Fire who are its inhabitants, they will neither die therein nor live." Al-Nawawi said: The disbelievers will neither die therein nor live a life from which they benefit, as Allah Almighty said: "Neither is a term set for them to die, nor is its torment lightened for them."

As for his, peace and blessings be upon him, statement: "But there are people whom the Fire will afflict because of their sins, so He will cause them to die a death until, when they become charcoal, permission will be granted for intercession," these are the sinful believers. Allah Almighty will cause them to die a real death, whereby all sensation ceases. After they become charcoal, they will be brought out of the Fire and cast onto the rivers of Paradise, and the water of life will be poured upon them. They will grow like a seed growing in the sediment carried by a flood, then their conditions will be perfected, and they will enter their abodes in Paradise.
