What are the characteristics of bad companions, what is the ruling on accompanying them, and is abandoning them considered a sin?

Bad companions vary in degrees, and their characteristics include being far from Allah and following Satan, such as neglecting obligations, wasting time on forbidden things, and slandering scholars and righteous people. The Sharia evidence has indicated the necessity of avoiding them. Allah, the Almighty, says: "And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, 'Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.' Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken such-and-such a friend. He had certainly led me astray from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A man is upon the religion of his intimate friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends." Their companionship is a deadly poison, and a person is rewarded for abandoning them.
