Did the Prophet, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, sleep in the clothes he wore when he went out to meet people?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would sometimes sleep and pray in the same clothes he wore when going out among people. Aishah and Umm Habibah, may Allah be pleased with them both, affirmed this, provided there was no impurity on the garment. This was common due to the scarcity of clothes and the harsh living conditions at that time, as people did not have multiple garments for every occasion. However, with the abundance of provisions and the ease of living, it is recommended for a Muslim to adorn himself for prayer, especially on Fridays and Eid, and to show the effect of Allah's blessings upon him. He should also observe the prevailing custom in his society. If wearing sleepwear to the mosque is customarily acceptable, then there is no harm. But if it is condemned or goes against good manners, then it should be avoided.
