What is the ruling on renovating mosques, and is the reward for renovation the same as the reward for building?

Maintenance of mosques falls into three categories: decorative maintenance that is not needed, and the money for it should be spent on other mosques that people can benefit from; maintenance necessitated by need but not by dire necessity, such as peeling tiles, and the doer of such work will be rewarded for cleaning the mosque; and maintenance necessitated by dire necessity, such as cracked walls and beams, which is given the ruling of construction.
