Does your wife become irrevocably divorced from you (with three pronouncements) after you say to her: "If you return to me and do not change your behavior with me, then you are divorced with three pronouncements"?

If a man writes to his wife, "You are threefold divorced if you return and do not change your manner of treatment," and she returns without changing her manner, then if he intended to effect divorce, it becomes a triple divorce according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most preponderant view. She becomes unlawful for him until she marries another man. If he did not intend divorce, then nothing is incumbent upon him.

However, if he uttered this statement as a conditional divorce, and the wife did not change her manner, then a triple divorce has occurred according to the majority of scholars, and this is the most preponderant view, even if he did not intend divorce. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that only one divorce is binding in the first case, and an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yameen) is binding in the second case if he did not intend divorce, or one divorce if he did intend it.
