What is the ruling on one who dies by suicide, having intentionally consumed a large quantity of pills and medications, but who uttered the Shahadah and left a copy of the Qur’an for his family, enjoining them to learn the rulings of the Qur’an moments before his death, knowing that he did not pray regularly during his life, and what are the deeds his family should perform so that Allah may have mercy on him in his grave?

This deceased person has gone to meet what he put forth, and we do not know whether his act was intended as suicide or otherwise. If he intended suicide, then it is a grave sin, "Whoever kills himself with a piece of iron, that iron will be in his hand, and he will stab his abdomen with it in the Fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein forever." As for not being diligent in prayer, it is a serious matter. The deeds that will benefit him are seeking forgiveness for him, invoking mercy upon him, giving charity on his behalf, and performing Hajj and Umrah on his behalf if feasible.
