Is it permissible to pray for a person who blew himself up and died, or is he considered to have departed from the religion?

Suicide is one of the grave sins, and its perpetrator is threatened with hellfire, but he is not considered a disbeliever by the general consensus of jurists. Therefore, the funeral prayer is performed over him like other deceased Muslims. The jurists and the Sunnis have unanimously agreed that a suicide victim does not, by that act, exit the fold of Islam, and funeral prayers are performed over him, and he is buried in Muslim cemeteries. The majority of jurists (Hanafi, Maliki, and Shafi'i schools) hold the view that the funeral prayer should be performed over a suicide victim. As for the Hanbalis, they believe that the Imam should not lead the prayer for him, but other people may pray over him. Omar ibn Abd al-Aziz and Al-Awza'i refused to pray over someone who had killed himself. The villagers' refusal to pray over the suicide victim has some basis, but their refusal to bury him and pelting him with stones has no basis.
