How can a person draw closer to God despite their inability to attain khushu' (devotional humility) in prayer?

The greatest means of drawing closer to Allah after Tawhid (monotheism) is the obligatory prayer (Salat al-Fard), followed by performing the rest of the obligatory duties, and then increasing in supererogatory acts (Nawafil). Prayer without khushu' (devotional humility) is like a body without a soul. Among the things that help achieve khushu' are: preparing for it by perfecting purity and ablution (wudu'), reflecting on the meanings of the words and remembrances (adhkar), and being mindful of addressing the All-Hearing Lord, as evidenced by the Qudsi Hadith: "I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he asks for." Thus, feeling the greatness of standing before Allah and reflecting on the meanings helps in attaining khushu'.
