What is required of a man who is unable to pay his debt after selling everything he owns, and is it permissible for him to beg people for money to pay it, and will his soul remain bound by the debt if he dies without having been negligent in repayment?
The rights of people are serious, and whoever takes people's money as a loan should strive to repay it before their death. We advise anyone who is in debt to turn to Allah Almighty and frequently recite the well-known supplication: "O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provisions against Your unlawful ones, and enrich me with Your bounty, sparing me from needing anyone other than You." There is no harm in him explaining his situation to wealthy individuals who pay or to charitable organizations, so he may be given from the share allocated for debtors. If a person dies before repaying his debt, but he intended to repay it and took the necessary steps, then Allah's mercy dictates that he will not be held accountable for it, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever takes people's money with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it on his behalf."
