Am I obligated to visit my mother who has lost her memory and does not recognize me, knowing that my visit makes no difference to her condition?

Allah has made it obligatory to maintain kinship ties and has warned those who sever them. Parents, especially the mother, are among those whose kinship ties are most incumbent upon us to maintain. Righteousness towards parents is one of the greatest forms of maintaining kinship ties. It is not permissible for one who is able to visit to suffice with other means, and memory loss is not an excuse to abandon visiting them. Visiting them fulfills obedience to Allah and draws one closer to Him, averts His punishment, and provides reassurance regarding their well-being.
