What is the ruling on the Eid prayers?

The scholars differed regarding the ruling on the Eid prayers, holding three views: a confirmed Sunnah, a communal obligation (fard kifayah), or an individual obligation upon every Muslim. Those who maintained its obligation cited the Almighty's saying: ﴿So pray to your Lord and sacrifice﴾, and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) command for everyone, even women, to go out for it, with menstruating women to abstain from the prayer area. Some scholars favored the view that it is obligatory upon every male, except for those with a valid excuse.
