What are the conditions that necessitate the Eid prayers?

Scholars differ on the ruling concerning Eid prayers. The preponderant opinion among the Shafi'is and Malikis is that it is a confirmed Sunnah (definition). As for the Hanafis, they consider it obligatory, provided there is an Imam, a city (Misr), a congregation, the correct time, male gender, freedom, good health, and residency. The sermon, according to them, is Sunnah after the prayer. The Hanbalis consider it a communal obligation (fard kifayah) and stipulate permanent residency and the number of people required for Friday prayer.
