Is it permissible to title a person "the Legislator" (al-Musharri') out of reverence for a grandfather who bore this title and whose name is recorded in official documents, and is "the Legislator" (al-Musharri') one of Allah's Most Beautiful Names that is exclusive to Him, and what is required if it is not permissible?
Allah is the Lawgiver (al-Musharri'), but "al-Musharri'" is not one of His names.
Some scholars have applied the name "al-Musharri'" to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, because he is the conveyor from Allah and the expounder of the .
This term is found in books such as: "Umdat al-Qari" by Badr al-Din al-Ayni, "Sharh al-Arba'in al-Nawawiyyah" by Ibn Daqiq al-Eid, "Mir'at al-Mafatih" by Al-Mubarakfuri, and "Taj al-Arous" by Al-Zabidi.
Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd, in "Mu'jam al-Manahi al-Lafziyyah," is of the view that this term should not be applied to a human being.
One should not change the name of a grandfather by which he became known, even if the name was initially forbidden. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not change the names of people's grandfathers, such as "Abd Manaf," which was the name of an idol.
