When performing Hajj by proxy, will the reward for remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a) during tawaf, sa'i, and on the day of Arafah be for the person on whose behalf Hajj is performed or for the one performing it? Is it permissible for the one performing Hajj by proxy to supplicate for himself and his family? What are the actions performed by the one performing Hajj by proxy for which he receives a reward? And does he receive any reward other than the money he took?

It is permissible to perform Hajj on behalf of the deceased or someone unable to reach Mecca, provided that the proxy has already performed Hajj for himself. It is not permissible to perform Hajj on behalf of someone whose impediment is temporary and will be removed. It is not permissible for someone performing Hajj on behalf of another to do so for financial gain. It is better for him to volunteer for the entire Hajj or to request only the expenses without any زيادة (increase/profit), and he will be rewarded for that. The reward for the rituals goes to the one on whose behalf Hajj is performed, while the reward for prayer and supplication goes to the one performing Hajj. It is also commendable for him to supplicate for the one on whose behalf Hajj is performed, and he will be rewarded for that. Scholars have differed regarding the reward of the one performing Hajj on behalf of another: whether he receives the full reward of Hajj or less. Some believe he receives the full reward, and Allah's bounty is vast.
