What should the questioner do about the bottle of wine his friend left with him that ran out, and is anything incumbent upon him regarding his friend?
Alcohol is the mother of all evils, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed ten categories of people involved with it. There is no compensation due for destroying alcohol, whether it is destroyed by a Muslim or a Dhimmi, and this is what Ibn Qudamah and Al-Shafi’i stated. Accepting alcohol is a sin that necessitates repentance, and bad company is a calamity; for on the Day of Resurrection, all close friends will be enemies except the righteous. The example of a good companion is like the carrier of musk, and the example of a bad companion is like the blower of the bellows. Associating with alcohol drinkers may lead to drinking it.
